Sorry Mr Trudeau, Kinder Morgan Is Just An Economic Pipe Dream
Speaker: Ken Johnson, PhD – Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health, University of Ottawa.
Sunnyside Branch Library – 1049 Bank Street –
(Across the street from the Mayfair Theatre)
While Trudeau and the Liberal government offer up slogans to justify why the Kinder Morgan pipeline “must be built” and is in the “national interest”, a chorus of thoughtful investigative journalists have recently provided compelling evidence that the economic case for tar sands expansion and Kinder Morgan’s twinning of the Trans Mountain Pipeline is simply not there. Ken Johnson’s recent article “Sorry Mr Trudeau, Kinder Morgan Is Just An Economic Pipe Dream” highlights a number of those concerns. (link here)
Ken will explore those arguments, and put them in the larger context of Canada’s carbon reduction commitments in the Paris Accord, disruptive technology and the Clean Tech revolution. If names like Barry Saxifrage, Jeff Rubin, Paul McKay, Mitchel Anderson, Andrew Nikiforuk, Robyn Allan, Kevin Taft, Tony Seba and Jeremy Legget are not familiar to you come find out about their amazing work. If you are wondering why what you hear from Trudeau, McKenna, Carr, Notley and Canada’s mainstream and business press differs so greatly from the narrative suggested above, join us for an evening of presentation and discussion sure to be illuminating.
